Scottsdale Neighborhood Arts Place (SNAP) is the 501(c)3 non-profit arts outreach arm of Scottsdale Congregational United Church of Christ. SNAP provides space for people of all ages to explore, express, and experience their own creativity. Originally called Ocotillo Center for Creativity and co-founded in 2007 by Rev. Katharine Harts, Lisa Sampson, Jill Marderness, Carrie Abts and Dan Loven, non-profit status was achieved in July of 2009 and the name was changed in April of 2010 to better serve and represent the citizens of south Scottsdale.

SNAP offers both adult and youth programming. Classes have included: Fitness and Flexibility 101, Zumba, Belly Dance Basics, Gentle Heart Centered Yoga & Vinyasa Flow Yoga, with Summer Musical Theater Explorations for youth and "Discover Science 4 Kids" a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) youth summer camp.

Current programming focuses on our resident dance company, Dias Dance Life, www.diasdancelife.com, Gentle Yoga, Visual arts programming, partnering with local theater companies for rehearsal space and offering top notch instructors for individual music lessons. Future plans include Funtastic Fall and Spring Break Arts Camps plus an after school arts program.

  • Community Drumming Circle

    The Groove is in The Heart.
    This Community Drumming Circle will be held in the SNAP Music Room every 3rd Friday 5:30-6:30 PM. Bring your own percussion or drum. Drums available if you don't own one.   • Conscious Dance

    CONSCIOUS DANCE, led by Don Titmus, also happens each 3rd Friday. Come try both the drumming circle and the dance - two arts experiences in one night! DJ Permie Don's guided dance is based on the 5 Rhythms of Gabrielle Roth. The Dance has 5 distinct music rhythms that move your body in a sequence promoting "Self-Analysis." Thoughts, feelings, and inspirations transform your movement into a Conscious Dance! Open to all ages 7 on up. No partner needed.   • Argentine Tango

    The Tuesday evening PRACTICaNDO is especially suited for beginners:

    7:00 – 8:30 PM CLASS      8:30pm – 11:00 PM PRACTICA
    $15 class + practica      $10 practica ONLY      $10 class ONLY

    Wednesday’s ARGENTINE TANGO CLASS is for more advanced students:

    7:00 – 8:30 PM Specialty Class all levels
    8:30 – 9:30 PM Fundamentals for beginners
    Only $10 per person

    EXPERIENCE ARGENTINE TANGO – A CHANCE OF A LIFETIME!!

    SPECIAL NOTE: Wednesday’s ARGENTINE TANGO classes will be suspended in February and March so that Rommel and his dance partner Daniella Borgialli can prepare for the ARGENTINE TANGO USA FESTIVAL & CHAMPIONSHIP in San Francisco April 5-8, 2012. They were Finalists last year, and if they win this year, they will win a round trip package to Buenos Aires to compete in the TANGO DANCE WORLD CUP competition in August 2012. We wish Rommel and Daniella all the best!

 

  • Yoga classes

    The Scottsdale Neighborhood Arts Place (SNAP) offers a yoga program that is specifically and apologetically spiritual in nature. Our goal is to offer a variety of classes that can provide a physical challenge to various fitness levels, and an opportunity to explore the mind-body-spirit connection.

    We are excited for this opportunity to teach yoga in a spiritual environment. Thank you for being part of our wonderful journey together!

  • Other Community Ensembles

    SNAP welcomes Pat's Cello Ensemble, first Sundays at 2 PM. Chuck Peck and Phoenix AZ Shakuhachi Friends on first Saturdays at 10 AM. Both sessions are open to new attendees.   • Private Music Lessons

    Private music lessons are offered through Scottsdale Neighborhood Arts Place for all instruments and voice. All instructors are professional musicians dedicated to sharing their knowledge with students of all ages and all levels. They currently perform or teach with such organizations as The Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Opera Orchestra, Arizona State University, Maricopa College District and more.
